Carols by Candlelight and Christmas Parade back for 2022 The City of Armadale invites you to join in the festive spirit of the holiday season at the annual Carols by Candlelight and Christmas Parade on Saturday, 3 December. The evening kicks off at 5.30pm with the Christmas Parade through Jull Street Mall. Featuring a variety of colourful characters and performances by local community groups, the Christmas Parade is back for the first time since 2019 and provides an exciting spectacle for the young and imaginative. |

Eating Brighter in the City of Armadale The City of Armadale is partnering with Cancer Council WA’s LiveLighter program to encourage healthy eating and promote living a healthy lifestyle locally. The Eat Brighter campaign prompts people to buy, eat, cook and grow more colourful fruit and vegetables while highlighting ways to make small lifestyle changes to improve health by prioritising healthy eating and boosting physical activity. |

Winners of the 2022 Armadale Young Writers’ Awards Announced Winners of the City’s 12th Armadale Young Writers’ Awards were announced at a presentation evening on Friday 2 September 2022. The awards were open to all students in years 3 - 12 who reside or attend school in the City of Armadale. Author Nadia L King assisted prospective entrants with their writing and storytelling skills at workshops held during May. This year’s awards attracted 130 entries, which were read by a panel of judges who complimented the high standard of talent and creativity, across all five age categories. |

City Welcomes Contractor Announcement on Flagship Viaduct Rail Project The City welcomes yesterday’s State Government announcement that MetConnx will design and construct the rail viaduct in Armadale, including the train station and surrounding rail corridor, as part of METRONET'S $645million Byford Rail Extension project. The announcement also confirmed the planned 18-month shutdown of the Armadale Line to facilitate the transformation will now commence in late 2023. City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said that the new Armadale Train Station and rail corridor would play a significant role in the urban renewal of the city centre. |

Winners of the Outside the Frame Art Awards Announced On Friday night, the community celebrated an exciting and fresh body of works by some of the best emerging young artists at the Armadale District Hall. The Outside the Frame exhibition is available to view for free every day until Sunday, 14 August 2022, from 11am to 4pm at the Armadale District Hall. The exhibition is the culmination of works for the Outside the Frame Art Awards featuring a body of thought-provoking works, sharing current trends and ideas from student artists in years 11 and 12 across Perth. |

Pens at the ready for the Armadale Writers’ Award Calling writers across Western Australia to enter the 2022 Armadale Writers’ Award. Now in its sixth year, the Armadale Writers’ Award is a creative writing competition open to all adult writers living in Western Australia. City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield says the award exists to support and foster a love of writing within the community. “The Armadale Writers’ Award encourages aspiring writers to put pen to paper and share their story. The prizes provide an added incentive to push through any nerves or writer’s block,” said Mayor Butterfield. |

New Bedfordale Digs for local Community Shed The Waterwheel Community Shed Inc. (formerly the Roleystone Community Men’s Shed) has a new home at the former fire station in Bedfordale. The non-gender specific community organisation moved to the Brian O’Neill Reserve Community Centre, at 2 Waterwheel Road, this week following necessary building alterations by the City. Originally built in 1985, the old fire station was extended in 1994. In 2021, it became available as a community facility following the relocation of the Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade to a purpose-built fire station. |

Trifecta Win for Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre (AFAC) The City’s AFAC facility was recognised for operational excellence at the recent WA Aquatic Recreation Industry (ARI) Awards taking home both the Sustainability and Watch Around Water Facility of the Year Awards. AFAC’s Jonathan Shapcott was recognised at an individual level being named Aquatic Supervisor of the Year for his advanced skills in and around water coupled with his immense work ethic. |

2022 FOCUS Photographic Competition Winners Announced Winners of the FOCUS photographic competition were announced at the Armadale Library on Saturday 21 May 2022. City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield gave out the prizes at an award presentation attended by councillors, judges, award winners, and their families. Mayor Butterfield said the competition records another layer of the City’s history and that the quality of photographs submitted to this year’s competition are testament to photographs being able to capture more than outward appearances. |

Council alliance welcome Labor and Liberal $10 million river health vow The South East Corridor Councils Alliance (SECCA) has welcomed election pledges from the federal Labor and Liberal parties who have both recently promised to invest $10 million into restoring the health of the Canning River. SECCA, an alliance between the cities of Canning, Armadale, Gosnells and the Town of Victoria Park, launched the Restoring our Rivers campaign in January to lobby the Federal Government for $10 million to restore rivers impacted by overdevelopment. |

2022 Minnawarra Art Award Winners Announced Winners of the 2022 Minnawarra Art Awards, sharing a $25,000 prize pool, were announced at the exhibition opening night on Friday 29 April. Mayor Butterfield said the professionally curated exhibition provides viewers with high calibre and diverse artworks. “There is something for everyone in this year’s exhibition from sculptures and clay to a range of paintings, and contemporary photographs. It’s great to see that around 20% of the exhibition come from local artists making this a must-see event for our community,” said Mayor Butterfield. |

Funding Pledged for New Roleystone Fire Station The City of Armadale is set to receive a boost to its emergency services facilities if a Morrison Government is re-elected, thanks to a $2.2 million Federal funding pledge for the new Roleystone Fire Station at Springdale Park. Calling Young Writers to the 2022 Armadale Young Writers’ Awards The City of Armadale is again calling aspiring young writers to put pen to paper and enter the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards. 2022 is the 12th year of the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards which was established to encourage excellence in creative writing, and is open to all students from Year 3 through to Year 12 who live or attend school within the City of Armadale. Bin tagging aims to boost recycling quality In an effort to tackle waste contamination, the City of Armadale has re-started its community bin tagging education program. The program involves a quick visual check of the contents of households’ general waste and recycling bins at randomly selected properties across the City. City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the bin tagging program allows for direct feedback to households via tags attached to bin handles. “We understand it can be difficult to navigate all of the information about what can and can’t be put in bins,” said Mayor Butterfield. |

While biodiversity loss can mean worldwide extinction for some species, at a local level it can mean reduction or loss of species in a certain habitat. $700,000 Funding Boost for Gwynne Park Pavilion The City of Armadale has been successful in securing State Government funding for the redevelopment of the pavilion at Gwynne Park. Up to $700,000 will be made available through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Funding (CSRFF) grant for 2022 - 2023. The CSRFF funding of $700,000 will go towards the $4.285m redevelopment of the pavilion scheduled to begin in 2022-23. |

New Pavilion at Creyk Park Opened Creyk Pavilion was officially opened today by City of Armadale Mayor, Ruth Butterfield. This major infrastructure project provides the community with a multi-purpose facility to accommodate senior sport and community activity across the Kelmscott community. The new 850m2 pavilion includes a main hall, multi-purpose room, club rooms, four all gender change rooms, along with facilities to support the use of the oval, including cricket nets. The works at Creyk Park in Kelmscott were completed in January 2022. |
