The City of Armadale has been successful in securing State Government funding for the redevelopment of the pavilion at Gwynne Park. Up to $700,000 will be made available through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Funding (CSRFF) grant for 2022 - 2023.

The CSRFF funding of $700,000 will go towards the $4.285m redevelopment of the pavilion scheduled to begin in 2022-23.

The Pavilion is the hub of the Gwynne Park Reserve – the City’s largest recreation reserve – and is used year round by the 400-plus members of the Armadale Junior and Senior football and cricket clubs, as well as darts, bingo and community events.

The current facilities are over 50 years old and do not meet the needs of the community with limited access for people with disability and no provision for female participation. The current facilities limit the growth of the clubs.

The new Pavilion will include four senior all gender change rooms, club room space, a function room, as well as all the other amenity areas to optimise the use of this reserve by all.

“Redeveloping the pavilion at Gwynne Park is part of the City’s continuing commitment to providing residents with high quality community sport and recreation facilities that cater to a diverse range of user groups and all abilities, and the latest CSRFF funding will assist our efforts,” said Armadale Mayor, Ruth Butterfield.

Council will finalise concept designs for a contemporary pavilion that meets the needs of a district level sporting complex later this year.

The State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, is a major supporter of community sport and recreation facilities in Western Australia. Sport and recreation builds stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. When we play sport our whole community wins.
