Armadale Arts Festival
Release Date:
Friday, 1 April 2022

Art and creativity will be the heart of the annual Armadale Arts Festival when it kicks off later this month.

Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said this year’s festival which runs from Friday 29 April through to Sunday 15 May delivers an exciting program of live music, visual arts and craft, literature and culture, while showcasing incredible local home-grown talent.

“Experiencing art whether as music, food, literature, visual artworks, or performance is one of life’s great joys and I’m pleased that the City, alongside our incredibly creative community, is able to deliver the Armadale Arts Festival to our local community,” said Mayor Butterfield.

At the centre of the Festival will be the Minnawarra Art Awards. The exhibition, sponsored by Stockland and curated by artist Ron Nyisztor, will feature a professionally curated body of contemporary and traditional works at the Armadale District Hall. The awards also offer an exciting public program, including floor talks, positive ageing high teas, and music in the hall.

“Another of the festival highlights will be A Journey through Jazz made possible thanks to an amazing partnership between the City, the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO), and multi-award winning local business, Seven Sins.”

WAYJO will delight the audience with tunes from the golden era of swing, hip sounds of the 60s, big band movie soundtracks right through to contemporary music. To complement the incredible talent on stage, award-winning head chef and owner of Seven Sins, Seb Sinderman, will be dishing up the finest ingredients on offer in a fabulous two-course dining experience at the historic Armadale District Hall.

This year’s festival will close with a performance by a community choir led by Festival Artist, Bree Hartley. The community choir will be established just for the festival and everyone is invited to join in. Rehearsal dates and times are published in the Festival program so whether you have sung before or not – come and join in, and let’s show how the power of music can truly connect people.
