The City of Armadale is encouraging everyone to spread kindness whenever possible in the lead up to World Kindness Day this Sunday, 13 November 2022.

City Mayor Ruth Butterfield said while awareness days shine a light on important themes, when it comes to kindness it can be the small everyday actions that have the most impact.

“There are opportunities for kindness everywhere and usually the acts that have the most impact are with people you already know,” Mayor Butterfield said.

“You run the risk of making assumptions when you randomly pay it forward – we have all heard of someone who was judged before having their groceries, meal or fuel paid for, resulting in a poor experience for everyone.

“I want to encourage everyone to be mindful and avoid tokenistic actions. If you do something kind and want to celebrate it, please ensure you get the recipient’s consent before glowing it up on social media.”

To help our local community get involved in World Kindness Day, the City is launching its Acts of Kindness in Armadale project, in partnership with Mentally Healthy WA.

“We’ve created a kindness card embedded with seeds, making it both recyclable and plantable - a random act of kindness from us to you,” Mayor Butterfield said. “The card explains the benefits of random acts of kindness and some simple ideas of how to use it.”

Those who receive a kindness card can choose to pass on the card or plant the seeds and watch the kindness wave grow.

Mayor Butterfield said the kindness project showcases the City’s partnership with Mentally Healthy WA, and celebrates our one year anniversary of being an Act Belong Commit partner*.
