Sharing Economy Education Campaign: Make Sharing Fair

There’s a good chance you’ve heard of platforms like Uber and Airbnb. These platforms and many others are a part of the sharing economy.

If consumers hire or buy goods and services through an online marketplace or sharing economy platform, they are protected by the Australian Consumer Law if things go wrong, in the same way as they would be if they were to buy in store.

Traders are also protected by the Australian Consumer Law and have all the same rights and obligations to consumers, like guaranteeing the services and goods they provide comply with consumer law.

The national Sharing Economy campaign aims to educate consumers and traders on their rights and responsibilities when using sharing economy platforms like Uber and Airbnb.

More information on the Sharing Economy for traders and consumers can be found here:

Stat Attack

With Christmas quickly approaching, it’s that time of year for the retail industry to benefit from thousands of people buying gifts for their loved ones. The retail industry is the City’s second largest employer, generating 2,928 local jobs in 2015/16.

If every resident in the City of Armadale spent $20 on Christmas shopping or gifts at one of Armadale’s many retail stores, once during December, this would inject $35,867,200 into the local economy.

It will be a busy Christmas Eve for Santa this year, as he has 13,660 households with young children (under the age of 15) to visit in the City of Armadale. He will spend the longest time in the suburbs of Seville Grove and Armadale who have 2,855 and 2,777 children aged under the age of 15, respectively.
