Grow South East

Western Australia’s south east metropolitan local governments have joined forces to highlight the economic value and importance of the region to Perth and Western Australia.

Grow South East was formed in 2015 by the Cities of Armadale, Belmont, Canning, Gosnells, Kalamunda and South Perth, Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and the Town of Victoria Park. Collectively, these regions are the biggest contributor to Perth’s economy providing $37 billion in gross regional product, or 14.3% of the State’s gross regional product.

Providing an opportunity to highlight the considerable economic strengths of the south east corridor, the group also provides a forum for the local governments to work together cooperatively on strategic outcomes and key infrastructure projects of regional significance designed to benefit the greater Perth community.

Ray Tame, Chief Executive Officer at the City of Armadale, says the collaborative approach and knowledge sharing between the councils provides a result that benefits everyone.

“Our main aim is to increase the economic development opportunities for the whole of the south east corridor, and one of the best ways to achieve economic growth is by being innovative. With eight councils joining forces, we achieve greater alignment and can effectively advocate to highlight the economic value and opportunities of our region,” says Mr Tame.

With the population of the region growing at a rate faster than the state average, and the south east providing 18% of all jobs to Western Australia, there needs to be a proactive approach to addressing infrastructure investment needs by all levels of government.
