Labor commits $80 million to CCS

An elected Shorten Labor Government has committed to providing a further $80 million toward the cost of building the Armadale Road Bridge over the Kwinana Freeway, linking North Lake Road with Armadale Road as part of the Community Connect South project. This is on top of the commitment to widen Armadale Road, already promised at the Canning By-election.

The project will reduce travel time, improve safety, and upgrade access for thousands of local residents.

Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese stated “Labor understands that congestion at Cockburn Central is already an increasing problem. It’s limiting the growth and prosperity of the south metropolitan region, and creating an unwelcome flow on effect for the rest of the city.

“Labor stands for jobs and for productive, sustainable and liveable cities. That’s why we are increasing productivity and reducing travel time for families and businesses.”

The construction of the Armadale Road Bridge will boost jobs, and will be a welcome upgrade for residents in Piara Waters, Harrisdale, Hilbert, Haynes, Banjup and Forrestdale.

The total cost of the Armadale Road Bridge is estimated at $160 million, and will be funded in partnership with the Western Australian State Government.
