Switch Your Thinking is searching for the 2015 Young Re-Inventor of the Year and is accepting registrations from young people from local schools, community groups or as individuals.

Young people will have the opportunity to put their creativity to the test as they reuse, repurpose and upcycle items they find in the waste stream at home, school or at the City of Armadale’s Drop N Shop Reuse Centre.

This program can link to education outcomes in science, technology and enterprise, health and physical education, society and environment, and the arts.

“This competition is aimed at supporting local actions to reduce greenhouse emissions,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP.

“This year food will be the theme for the competition. Students will be challenged to reinvent rubbish into something new to help grow, package or store food or to reduce household waste.

“It is a great way to encourage young people to think outside the box and find creative ways to reduce the amount of waste going into our landfill,” he said.

Entries close Monday 9 November. To find out more or to register visit www.switchyourthinking.com.

All entrants will receive a participation certificate presented at a school assembly and have their entry featured on the Switch your thinking website. Overall winners will receive a tailored sustainability pack to help them and their school to become more sustainable.

Entries from individual students, classes or whole schools are welcome at primary and high school level within Switch your thinking member Council areas.
