A Champion Centre mentor has received a prestigious 2014 NAIDOC Award, sponsored by BHP Billiton.
Harold “Woody” Humes a Senior Aboriginal Police Liaison Officer, was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award, at the recent 2014 NAIDOC Perth Awards held at the iconic Heath Ledger Theatre in Perth.
The NAIDOC Perth Awards honour the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, organisations and businesses in Perth.
Woody has worked for the WA Police Force for 21 years and has also served in the Australian Defence Services.
Mayor Henry Zelones said Woody has been the driving force behind the Champion Centre’s Aboriginal Driver Training Program since 2008.
“He is also involved in the local school program, which is a cultural awareness - back to country mentoring program for boys aged eight to 10 years.
“The Outstanding Achievement Award is an honour, and one that Woody thoroughly deserves for his dedication to the program and to his profession.
“He is well known and respected in the community, not only for his dedication to the program, but for his assistance and support to various Aboriginal individuals and families experiencing a wide range of issues.
“The City of Armadale would like to congratulate Woody on the award and thank him for his commitment and dedication to the success of these Champion Centre programs,” said Mayor Zelones.
