Some of WA’s most acclaimed artists have been awarded top prizes as part of the City of Armadale’s 2014 Minnawarra Art Awards.
The esteemed Gerry Gauntlett Award, a $5,000 non-acquisitive prize was awarded to Eva Fernandez. Her work Anonymous Sculpture #1 was judged as the standout entry in this year’s prestigious awards.
Lesley Barrett took out the $1,000 non-acquisitive prize for her work Chipalars.
The Stockland $5,000 3D commissioned prize was awarded to Andrew Kay for his pieces Colour Drop and Into the Light, and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority’s $5,000 acquisitive prize was awarded to Jean and June Pastore for their work Fractured Sunset.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones is encouraging visitors and the community to come down to Armadale District Hall and view the magnificent exhibition which is on display until Sunday 13 April.
“This year’s Minnawarra Art Awards has once again brought together an incredibly high calibre of artists to display their works.
“Judges Jánis R Nédela from Gallery East and Mark Stewart from Murdoch University were extremely impressed with the professionalism of the exhibition.
“The judges were astounded by the excellence of the artworks submitted by the artists. This made their decisions extremely difficult due to the variety of media presented and outstanding skill the artists displayed through their works.
“This is the largest social community event on the City’s calendar. We are incredibly proud of this exhibition and look forward to raising the bar every year by bringing acclaimed artists and their works into the City centre,” said Mayor Zelones.
The Minnawarra Art Awards is a free exhibition and will be open to the public from 11am to 4pm daily until Sunday 13 April at the Armadale District Hall, corner Jull Street and Orchard Avenue, Armadale.
The Minnawarra Art Awards are proudly sponsored by Stockland and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.
