Cross Park skate park in Roleystone is set to benefit from a splash of creative colour when the third Armadale Paint Jam rolls out on Sunday 2 October.

Part of the City’s Urban Art Project 2016, four young local artists guided by a professional artist will engage a group of local young people and together will take part in a design workshop to collaborate on a mural design for the skate park wall.

The young people will take Roleystone’s community characteristics and features into consideration when designing the mural and will incorporate a nature based theme into their final design.

The first Paint Jam saw the Armadale Animal Management Facility receive a welcome facelift, while the second took place on the Karragullen Oval water tank and toilet block.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said many Roleystone community members had expressed positive feedback about the Karragullen water tank design and he looked forward to seeing designs for the skate park.

“Youth culture and young people are a vital part of our community and this type of project aims to encourage young people that have an interest in art, but may have limited opportunity, to explore their creative abilities,” he said.

“The project provides the opportunity for young people to create something for their community and it has been amazing watching the collaboration and enthusiasm by all involved.”

The Urban Art project has been funded by two grants received from Community Arts Network WA and the Department of Culture and the Arts for a combined total of $29,936.
