Couple dressed as Santa and Mrs Claus outside decorated house
Release Date:
Tuesday, 28 November 2023

Roleystone residents Phil and Julie Davey are just two homeowners in the City of Armadale who have decked out their home with an array of Christmas themed lights, as part of the 2023 Connected Community Christmas Lights Trail competition.

The community-minded couple have a fun-filled festive display at their home at 12 Lenore Street in Roleystone, which includes blowup Santas, oversized snowmen, a reindeer farm complete with baby reindeers, and a snow machine which sits on the roof and frequently showers visitors with a light dusting of snow.

“It’s all about community and creating a festive spirit for the kids,” says Phil, who has been known to dress up as Santa Claus in previous years, with his wife Julie donning her Mrs Claus costume.

“We have quite a lot of neighbours who also take part and the real gift for us is seeing people enjoying our lights. The smiles on their faces are priceless, and our grandchildren absolutely love it too.

“It’s fantastic to get the support from the City of Armadale, as getting involved in the festive lights really helps the community come together. It embodies the true spirit of Christmas and it seems to be increasing in our area every year, which is wonderful to see.”

This year’s 2023 competition is running from now until Tuesday 12 December 2023, with winners invited to attend a council meeting on 18 December 2023 to receive their cash prizes and vouchers from selected local businesses, who are members of the Perth Hills Armadale Visitor Centre.

Prize categories include Best Private Residence and Best Solar/Green Display Private Residence, both of which attract a $750 cash prize. $100 vouchers will be on offer for the best private residence in Heron Ward, Hills Ward, Lake Ward, Minnawarra Ward, Palomino Ward, Ranford Ward and River Ward. There will also be a random prize draw, with six winners being awarded a $50 voucher.

A big thank you to Dr Toni Buti MP and Matt Keogh MP for their support of the competition this year.
