The City of Armadale assures residents that fire and emergency services are covered for the Roleystone area following Council’s resolution last night on the long-running debate about the future of fire services for Roleystone. Council was requested to take urgent action as this complex matter had just become too big for the brigades to handle on their own.

“The community’s safety has and always will be a priority for the City of Armadale, and arrangements are in place to deal with emergency and fire events,” said Chief Executive Officer Joanne Abbiss.

“The Roleystone town site will continue to be serviced by the Roleystone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. The newly established Roleystone Karragullen Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, to be housed at Springdale Park, will service the Roleystone area outside the town site. Council agreed to construct a new $1.7M purpose-built facility at Springdale Park within the next twelve months for the new brigade. Council also agreed that the Roleystone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service can remain at the existing City owned station.”

The City engaged with key stakeholders in extensive consultation over a number of months to enable Council to make a decision about this complex issue. The decision was not taken lightly by Council who considered community concerns, various views, and the need to take into account multiple layers of legislative requirements.

“The City remains committed to provide a dedicated bushfire response for Roleystone, and is confident the new facility and volunteer brigade members will provide security to the community as the City’s volunteer brigade has done since 1957,” said Ms Abbiss.
