The City of Armadale is conducting a Review of its ward representation in line with guidelines issued by the Local Government Advisory Board, and invites public comment on the Review.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said all local governments with wards are required to review their Ward System at least once every eight years and Council’s last Review was done in 2013.

“As we are experiencing such rapid growth, the City needs to regularly review the Ward system to ensure our Councillor representation remains even and fair across the whole City.

“In looking at its Ward System, the City will have to evaluate a number of factors including, community of interest, physical and topographic features, demographic trends, economic factors and the ratio of Councillors to Electors in each ward.

“The review may result in any of the following proposals, creating new wards, changing ward boundaries, abolishing any or all wards, changing the name of a ward, changing the number of elected members and specifying or changing the number of offices of elected members for a ward.”

At the close of public submissions (4 January 2017) an Officer report will be prepared for the Council meeting to be held on 27 February 2017. This report will, amongst other matters, have regard for all public submissions received.

“The recommended changes resolved by Council will be forwarded to the Local Government Advisory Board for their assessment and recommendation to the Minister. Any changes approved by the Minister will then be in place for the next ordinary elections in October 2017”, he said.

Public submissions are invited and must be submitted to the City of Armadale by email to info@armadale.wa.gov.au by close of business Wednesday 4 January, 2017 at 5pm.
