Following on from the creativity of the Armadale Writers' Festival, the City is excited to announce the launch of the third year of the Armadale Writers' Award.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the Arts are a very important part of the culture and heritage of the City and every year we strive to support and enhance the arts in all forms, including creative writing.

“With a prize pool of $2,250 amateur adult writers living in Western Australia should jump on board at the chance to enter this competition.

“In extending the competition to across Western Australia, we hope to attract the talents of budding authors from far afield – be it Augusta in our south, to Port Hedland in the north and everywhere in between that have a story to tell.

“Once again, there is a generous prize pool on offer, with a first prize of $1000, the second prize winner will receive $750 and the third prize will receive $500.

“Entries will be judged by a panel of authors and librarians, who will be looking at the originality of themes, plot development, story structure, and the overall quality of writing.

“I encourage everyone that has a story to tell, to sharpen your pencil and get your imagination and creative juices flowing for a chance to scoop the prize pool,” he said.

Entry for this competition is online, and access to the entry form will only be available from 1 to 30 September 2019. The winners will be announced at a private award presentation on Friday 15 November, and the winning stories will be added to the library website on Monday 18 November.

Works must be original prose fiction and have a 1000 to 4000 word count. Visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au/armadale-writers-award and read the full terms and conditions of entry to guarantee eligibility and formatting requirements.
