Pioneers celebrate another year in City of Armadale

The City of Armadale hosted its annual Pioneers’ Reunion at the Kelmscott Hall on Saturday 12 August to honour its long term residents.

Around 180 pioneers tucked into an array of afternoon tea snacks and the opportunity to once again reminisce with old friends and familiar faces.

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield enjoyed a chat with many of the attendees and said a lot has changed since they first settled in the City.

“The event was a great opportunity for everyone to share memories and laughs with old friends as they considered how the City of Armadale has grown over time.

“The hard work and contribution of our long term residents and their spirit helped shape the fabric of the community we all now know and love. They grew up volunteering their time to make the community run smoothly, in the days before ‘volunteering’ had a name.

“The pioneers have made the City what it is today and this function recognises those residents who have helped build our community and established the City’s identity.

This year the attendees received a Western Australia Souvenir Coin from the Perth Hills Armadale Visitor Centre, which can add to a collection by visiting 73 other tourist locations around Western Australia.

“A collector’s album is available to purchase from Visitor Centres, and with a total of 106 souvenir coins to collect they are intended to bring fond memories of the places visited around the State,” said Mayor Butterfield.

Long-time resident Harry Kleyn won the first prize door prize of a large basket of colourful flowers, and Murray Homes was pleased to win the Souvenir Coin Book album to start his collection.

The Pioneers’ Reunion is hosted by the City of Armadale every year to acknowledge those that have lived in the City of Armadale for 50 years or more. If you have lived in the City of Armadale for 50 years, contact the Mayor’s Office on 9394 5639 to be invited in future years.
