The City of Armadale’s inaugural FOCUS 2016 photography competition attracted more than 100 entries from amateur photographers, with the winners announced at an exhibition launch at Armadale Library on Saturday.

The competition asked entrants to capture ‘Armadale’s changing face’ for the chance to share in almost $1500 in prizes.

FOCUS 2016 included youth and adult categories and was open to locals and visitors, with the purpose of capturing Armadale’s Changing face, as the events, places and faces of today are tomorrow’s history.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the standard of entries was remarkable, likely made easier by Armadale’s many photogenic locations.

“The City was very keen to build upon Birtwistle Local Studies Library’s Picture Armadale photographic collection, and what better way than to involve our local community,” he said.

“While we received impressive photographs of many of the City’s iconic locations, there were plenty who chose to focus on lesser known sites.”

Prizes included cash and vouchers up to $500 for the adult category, and $250 for the youth category.

The winning photographs will be on display at the Armadale Library from Sunday 29 May to Sunday 26 June.
