Five parks within Precinct F of the City’s Public Open Space Strategy will be upgraded at a cost of $707,000.

The size of Precinct F is approximately 1045 hectares located east of Albany Highway, north of Brookton Highway, south of the City boundary and west of Canning Mills Road.

The five parks prioritised for redevelopment within Precinct F are Frye Park, Rushton Park, Canning River Walk Trail, Lloyd Hughes Park and Goolamrup Reserve.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said we are committed to investing in the upgrade and maintenance of these assets throughout the City.

“We have many wonderful parks and reserves throughout the City and we’re constantly upgrading and renewing these assets to ensure families are able to enjoy their local parks and playgrounds.

The upgrades have been ranked in order of priority and construction works will be staged over several years. The works are currently scheduled to commence in 2018/19 to align with the scheduled works and annual maintenance programs across the whole of the City.

To fund the upgrades the City sold six parcels of land, which involved a number of processes including rezoning and implementation of business plans to enable the surplus Public Open Space to be sold.

“A significant upgrade to Frye Park will include expansion of the existing playground to cater for children aged 7 to 12 years and additional picnic area and path networks. The hard court zone will be revitalised with an additional active play space suitable for children 12 years and over,” he said.

Rushton Park will benefit from installation of fencing and revegetation along the Canning River, a viewing deck abutting the river, new shelters and informal pathways.

A walk trail is proposed for the Canning River linking Fancote Park and Gilwell Avenue bridge, including new signage, revegetation and installation of fencing.

Lloyd Hughes Park is part of the Banyowla Regional Park and consists of 17.7ha of A class bushland. The reserve upgrades will include gates, fencing, revegetation and signage.

The Goolamrup Reserve, located on Buckingham Road and Bernard Street, consists of 1.67ha of bushland to the Canning River. Proposed upgrades to this bushland reserve will include revegetation and upgrading of tracks and trails, gates, fencing and interpretive signage.
