The City of Armadale will implement parking restrictions on Broome Street, Forrestdale to ensure proper usage of the verge adjacent to the Forrestdale Primary School.

Council this week voted to install parking control signs in the form of ‘No Stopping Road or Verge’ along the Broome Street verge opposite the primary school. The restrictions will be imposed during school drop off and pick up hours (7.30 – 9am and 2.30 – 4pm).

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the City was notified by local residents and parents of concerns regarding cars parked unsafely on the verge, potentially creating a hazardous situation for children and parents attending the school.

“We are aware of at least two ‘near miss’ incidents related to cars exiting a residential driveway on Broome Street in recent months.

“Cars parking haphazardly on the verge during the school drop off and pick up times could possibly restrict sight distances and a mechanism to provide a safe exit from adjoining properties is required.

“There is ample parking provided in the on-road parking bays directly located across from the drop off and pick up points, however many cars continue to park in a disorderly fashion on the verge.

“The City requests that persons visiting the school find a legal parking spot and avoid stopping on the verge or road edge of this section of Broome Street.

“The City of Armadale Rangers will frequent the area to enforce the ‘No Stopping’ restrictions along this section of Broome Street,” said Mayor Zelones.
