Focus 2016 photography competition closing soon

The City of Armadale is inviting amateur shutterbugs to enter the inaugural Focus 2016 photography competition for a chance to win a share of almost $1500 in cash prizes.

With Youth and Adult categories, the competition is open to all amateur photographers who are Australian residents. Entrants are asked to submit photographs that best illustrate the changes in the City's places and people.

The competition runs from Tuesday, 1 March until Thursday, 31 March, 2016.

Green Cleaning – cleaning with chemistry

Friday 1 April, 10.30 – 11.30am
Armadale Library

Cut through the advertising spin of the home hygiene industry with the help of elbow grease and bi-carb soda. Cleaning with chemistry will arm you with a handbook and spray bottle to take home to make your own natural cleaner, an alternative to the toxic and expensive store bought cleaners.

This demonstration is perfect for parents or carers of young children who are looking for environmentally friendly, inexpensive, allergy free, non-toxic alternatives to traditional household cleaners.

  • The power of the nervous system, 1.30 – 2.30pm

    A representative from Nervana Chiropractic will discuss:

    • Ways to improve your nervous system
    • The importance of a realigned spine
    • Moving well, eating well and thinking well
    • Little changes to improve your health.
  • Understanding Grief, 3 – 4pm

    A representative of the Silver Chain Mental Health Team will discuss:

    • Grief and the process people go through when experiencing loss
    • The different dimensions of grief
    • The impact of grief and the steps people go through to accept their losses
    • Suggestions on dealing with grief

School holidays at the Museum – Heritage Tree Trail Adventure

Visit History House Museum from 12 to 25 April and enjoy some free fun with the whole family!

Follow the trail map to discover fascinating facts about the Heritage Trees in Minnawarra Park.

Collect your map from History House Museum, follow the trail and collect the facts, then come back to the Museum to collect your yummy prize!

This activity is available every day the museum is open. Bookings are not required.

Positive Ageing Sessions – Let’s get crafty

    Join the Activities Organiser from Bunnings as she guides you through the steps to making and decorating an A4 photo frame.

    This is a free workshop with all materials being supplied by Bunnings Armadale.

Up Hill & Down Dale

Monday 18 April, 9.30am – 1.30pm

Departure: Armadale Visitor Centre, 40 Jull Street, Armadale Join us and discover, or rediscover, the rich history of the City of Armadale on a guided bus tour from Armadale to Kelmscott, Roleystone and Bedfordale.

Anecdotal stories and short stops will introduce you to the people, places, and events that helped shape the district since 1830. There will be a morning tea stop along the way, prior to venturing deeper into the hills.

Note: This tour will involve stair climbing and navigation of uneven ground.

This bus tour has been organised by Birtwistle Local Studies Library as part of the National Trust of Western Australia’s Heritage Festival, which runs from 16 April – 18 May 2016.

Library Services Survey

The City of Armadale Library Services is currently undertaking an online survey to help measure the impact libraries have on the lives of residents in the Armadale community.

If Trees Could Talk

Join us for the official launch of the revised 1988 walking trail and participate in the inaugural walk of the Minnawarra Park section of the trail. This section highlights the unusual and historically significant trees in the City of Armadale’s heritage precinct.
