Positive Ageing Sessions – engaging older members of our community

Wednesday 7 September
Armadale Library, Armadale Central Shopping Centre

In recognition of September being Dementia Awareness Month, the City of Armadale is hosting two Positive Ageing Sessions relating to Dementia.

  • Dementia Friendly Communities, 1.30 – 2.30pm
    This information session will be presented by Althea Gordon from Alzheimer’s Australia WA. Discussion will include the importance and relevance of supporting those with dementia within the community context; the first steps to creating a dementia friendly community and the work being done in Armadale.

  • Your Brain Matters, 3 – 4pm
    Heather Thorne, from Alzheimer’s Australia WA, will discuss five steps you can take to keep your brain healthy as you get older.

Wow! It’s Italian – pasta demonstration and talk

Hilda and Laurie Inglese of Wow! It’s Italian a beautiful authentic Italian cookbook, are visiting us to share their passion of food.

Their ancestors migrated from a remote village high in the mountains, east of Rome in the Abruzzi region.

Hilda and Laurie believe in remaining loyal to the simple ingredients and cooking traditions of their families’ authentic Italian recipes.

Advanced photography workshop

Saturday 10 September, 1 – 4pm

This advanced photography workshop is perfect for those who are looking to refine their photography skills by programming their own camera settings. Topics covered in this session include aperture, shutter speed, white balance and light metering.

Participants will need to bring a digital camera or DSLR which features program or manual mode for practical exercises and are expected to be experienced and familiar with their camera.

Claire Boston - bestselling local author

Monday 12 September, 10.30 – 11.30am
Armadale Library

Claire Boston is a local bestselling contemporary romance author. She has written four Texan Quartet novels and her new series, The Flanagan Sisters, is being released this year.

Claire is proactive in organising social gatherings and educational opportunities for local authors. She’ll be visiting the Armadale Library talking about why she started writing, her writing process and giving hints and tips on how to finish a novel.

The Corruption and Crime Commission

Monday 12 September, 6.30 – 7.30pm

The good, bad and ugly! In this lecture Dr Tony Buti, MLA will examine the establishment of the Corruption and Crime Commission, its investigations, successes, failures and possible reform.

This lecture is part of the Armadale Public Lecture series.
