The City of Armadale, along with hundreds of regions across the country, welcomed our newest citizens as part of the City's annual Australia Day celebrations.

This year's celebration also marked the 70th anniversary of the introduction of Australian citizenship into law.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said becoming an Australian citizen is a momentous occasion for many as they pledge their commitment to Australia and its people, the values we share and the future of the country.

“Our community is very diverse and continues to grow. This year a total of 131 residents from 33 countries, some from as far away as Libya and the Russian Federation to our neighbour New Zealand, accepted their Australian Citizenship and celebrated alongside this year’s recipients of the Citizen of the Year Awards.

“For many people, moving to Australia is a new beginning and the City of Armadale offers lots of opportunities in lifestyle, housing and work for people and families, both young and old.

“In recognition of the 70th anniversary celebrations of Australian citizenship, our new members of the Australian family received a commemorative $1 coin from the Department of Home Affairs,” said Mayor Zelones.
