A new residential development along Forrest Road, Armadale was recently approved by the Armadale City Council signifying growing confidence in the area for redevelopment.
The proposal consists of the retention of the existing character residential dwelling and development of six multiple dwellings to the rear, and will offer an alternative housing choice to residents close to shops and the railway station.
Mayor Henry Zelones said giving the green light to a proposal of this nature, which is uncommon within the City, ties in with the Directions 2031 spatial framework.
“The ‘Connected City’ scenario within Directions 2031 requires 47% of all new dwellings to be accommodated within existing areas as infill development, and this development will make a genuine contribution to the creation of a more efficient and sustainable residential neighbourhood.
“The proposal has been architecturally designed to a high standard, and the existing residence has been retained as part of the proposal in support of maintaining the existing streetscape.
“Smaller, more affordable units of high quality built form such as this development are lacking in the local market.
"Council carefully scrutinised the development to ensure that it would be welldesigned and offer a high-quality living environment.
“We have a bold vision for a wide range of housing choices and styles in Armadale, and this multiple dwelling complex supports that aim”, said Mayor Zelones.
