The second meeting of the Local Implementation Committee (LIC) for City of Armadale,Shire of Murray and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, was held at the City of Armadale on Tuesday 11 March 2014.

As part of the local government reform process, the creation of a Local Implementation Committee (LIC) for each district was recommended. The LICs will each provide a representative to the Metropolitan Reform Implementation Committee (MetRIC).

While the Local Government Advisory Board is still to consider its recommendation on the future configuration of the three local governments, all Councils are aware they need to prepare for swift action once the outcome is known.

Chairperson of the LIC, Mayor Henry Zelones said “All three Councils were represented by their CEO and Mayor or Shire President, along with representatives from the Department of Local Government (DLGC) and the WA Local Government Association (WALGA).

“There was a strong spirit of co-operation in the room and all three Councils agreed to share information with each other openly.

“The Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct for the LIC were endorsed, setting the framework for how the LIC meetings and activities will be managed.

“The members agreed that Working Groups would be set up, with representatives from each of the three LGs, to progress technical and operational matters and report to the LIC.

“A Project Officer will also be appointed to advance the process,” said Cr Zelones.

At the meeting it was also confirmed that the Chairperson would be the LIC representative on the Metropolitan Reform Implementation Committee (MetRiC).

Mayor Zelones said “By working together the LIC hopes to address any concerns and work collaboratively towards a smooth transition.”
