This is a moment in time like no other we have experienced. Last week seems like an age ago. The situation is changing so rapidly, it’s sometimes difficult to keep up with the new measures being taken to try to arrest the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
A COVID-19 fever clinic has been opened at the Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital, so our community will be able to be serviced close to home, if testing is required.
Non-essential indoor gathering places are to be closed from midday on Monday 23rd March. This includes licensed premises (pubs), restaurants, cafes, churches and more. With sporting fixtures and large events all halted, empty streets and empty shelves. It’s quite surreal. Life is getting more difficult for everyone and although the precautions may seem extreme, they are necessary.
The COVID-19 emergency will test us like never before and it will take a long time before we are able to go about our ‘old’ lives. We all have to play our part in stopping the rapid spread of this virus by strictly following the health advice provided by Healthy WA.
We owe our thanks to those who continue to go to work, in healthcare, in supermarkets, in the emergency services etc. who provide essential services. Staff at the City have been working very hard to put in place measures to maintain delivery of services to the community, whilst also limiting the risk of exposure to the virus. Councillors are continuing to work and make decisions, using an innovative mix of face to face meetings and electronic communications.
This time of hardship will eventually come to an end. What we do today, as individuals and as a community will determine how well we emerge from this crisis. I am filled with admiration for the way that people are adapting and rising to the challenges we’re all now facing. As a community we are kind and compassionate, and we look out for each other.
We will get through this together.
