While the impacts of COVID-19 have made it difficult to celebrate the work of our volunteers in person, it is important to recognise the valued contribution that they make to our community.

National Volunteer Week, celebrated from 18-24 May, provides a great opportunity to say “thank you” to the many volunteers who help to make the City of Armadale such a vibrant place to live, and to let them know their efforts and commitment are appreciated. Our volunteers play an integral role in our community – giving their time, energy and skills through many hours of unpaid work to support and enhance the lives of others.

The community relies heavily on the contributions of volunteers in a number of important areas, including sport and recreation, the natural environment, community welfare initiatives and  emergency services.

Our volunteer bushcare groups play an important role in keeping our little corner of the world beautiful. On behalf of the City, I’d like to thank the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, Armadale Settlers Common Working Group, Bungendore Park Working Group, Friends of Forrestdale, Friends of Goolamrup, Friends of Lloyd Hughes Park, Friends of Roley Pool, Friends of Wright Brook, Roley Bushcare and Friends of Banyowla Regional Park and the Armadale Wildflower Society for their  tireless work.

To our much loved Bedfordale and Roleystone Volunteer Bushfire Brigades, our amazing SES who turn up rain, hail or shine, the Drop 'N’ Shop volunteers and the Roadwise committee. The Civic Pride Action Group who do an amazing job of tackling graffiti across the City. History House and Birtwistle Library volunteers who help preserve the history of the district and make it accessible for future generations. The Bert Tyler Museum and Perth Hills Armadale Visitor Centre volunteers who support tourism throughout the City. To all the volunteers from community sport, wildlife rehabilitators and pet rescue, we say THANK YOU.

Thank you for your time, your efforts and your passion – our community is richer because of you.

As we are still social distancing, I’d like to ask, that you join us, in ‘putting your hand up’ in thanks for all the incredible work our volunteers do across a multitude of areas. If you’d like to say thanks you can simply upload your ‘wave photo’ to social media and share using the hashtags #bekindarmadale and #waveforvolunteers.

Cr Ruth Butterfield, Mayor, City of Armadale
