As part of National Families Week the City of Armadale will be hosting a Keeping Children Safe workshop delivered by Holly-ann Martin from Safe4Kids on Thursday 19 May.

National Families Week is Australia’s annual celebration to recognise the importance of families and commenced in 2003 as an initiative which aimed to provide families, children and young people in the community the opportunity to build a better future.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said this is the 14th National Families Week and people and organisations across Australia will celebrate families with the theme this year ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’

“The theme highlights the fact that families play an important role in every community - teaching, supporting and nurturing children as they grow,” he said.

“Children are the future of our communities and it is important that we continue to invest in their future and seek to improve their safety and wellbeing.

“While many children and young people are doing well, unfortunately there are a number that suffer some form of abuse and neglect.

“This workshop will address risk factors for child abuse and neglect and provide parents and other community members information on how to empower their children to feel safe, and act in situations where they feel unsafe.”

The Keeping Children Safe workshop will be held on Thursday 19 May, from 6 to 9pm at the Goodstart Early Learning, 2 Caroline Street, Mt Nasura.

Light refreshments will be supplied, bookings are essential. To secure a place contact the City of Armadale on 9394 5642 or Goodstart Early Learning on 9497 7422.
