The continued growth in the City of Armadale brings with it many challenges and a current issue is the concerns in relation to the City Centre, and in particular the Jull Street Mall.
Understanding the impact to the City’s long term revitalisation strategy for the City Centre, as presented in the Armadale Activity Centre Plan which outlines the City’s priorities and recommendations, is particularly important.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the City is keen to work collaboratively with our entire community and all stakeholders to ultimately provide a safe and exciting space for everyone.
“Following on from a Council workshop in December it was clear that more information was required in order to make an informed decision on the Jull Street Mall business owners proposal to reopen the mall.
“The matter is progressing, with a careful and considered approach as any potential change will come at a considerable cost. Independent advice is being sought on the pros and cons of potential changes to the configuration of the mall and if this solution will indeed make a difference.”
“Council’s ultimate vision is to revitalise the City Centre, creating an employment hub where creativity and diversity meet in the City’s Centre; the community is connected by an underground train station, a vibrant piazza above it filled with cafes and shops adjoining the main pedestrian mall.
“One thing is clear, it is going to take all of us – business owners, police, Council and the community, working together to resolve this problem.
“We need everyone to play an active role in delivering this vision for the future of our community,” she said.
