The City of Armadale’s FOCUS Photographic Competition has returned for 2017.

This year the competition is open to adult amateur photographers, with a theme Our Corner Store. Budding amateur photographers have the chance to grab a prize of up to $500 and a professionally mounted copy of their winning entry.
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said corner stores are getting rarer every year and have almost faded from local suburban planning.

“It’s time to pick up your camera and get creative. Discover that special little hidden gem and document the unique shops run by our friends and neighbours within the City of Armadale.

Hosted by Birtwistle Local Studies Library, the FOCUS photo competition’s aim is to capture historical reality, favouring truth over beauty or visual experimentation.

“If you can capture these elements in one image you could do well, as historians like to see every detail rather than just a glamourous shot where details have been lost.

“Some of our long running local stores have a timeworn character which we seek to capture and celebrate.

“It may be your favourite independent pizza place, laundrette or other small business nestled into a row of shops”, said Mayor Zelones.

Enter your photograph online in the Focus Photographic Competition 2017, open from Wednesday 1, March until Friday 31, March 2017.
