Graeme Hart, one of the City’s long standing volunteers, received a Mayors Award for being a ‘Community Hero’ during a morning tea to mark his retirement from the City’s Graffiti Removal Group, on Friday 2 June.
Presented by the City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield, this award acknowledges the extraordinary effort of volunteers for the City, who willingly give up their time to give back to their communities.
Mayor Butterfield said volunteers play an important role in the City, helping a vast array of community organisations to provide services to people in need of assistance.
“For many organisations and sporting groups, volunteers are vital to their long-term success and sustainability and we are thankful for their efforts in making Armadale a better place to live.
“This award provides an opportunity to acknowledge and recognise the contribution Graeme has given to his community as he has a long history volunteering for a number of organisations.
“Graeme has worn many different hats during his volunteering days from being a volunteer fire fighter for the Roleystone Volunteer brigade, a fundraising role and club treasurer at the Armadale Kelmscott Lions Club, to assisting the Armadale Gosnell’s Landcare Group planting native seedlings in reserves and wetlands areas around Armadale.
“Graeme is retiring from his role as a volunteer for the City of Armadale’s Graffiti Removal Group after 8 years. The group is instrumental in promptly removing tags and other graffiti, as it appears around the City.
“Graeme, and all of the volunteers in the City of Armadale play an important role in providing a vital service and we are grateful for their efforts”, said Mayor Butterfield.
