The City of Armadale’s Visitor Centre is currently seeking to add to its pool of energetic, enthusiastic and passionate local volunteers to train as pole walking group
leaders.

Pole walking is a fun and convenient walking activity, renowned as an exercise that engages the whole body and suits everyone regardless of age or level of fitness.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the pole walking groups have proven very popular with a wide range of people within the community during the past year.

“This is a great chance to learn a new physical activity and keep fit, while meeting like-minded people from within your local community.”

Pole walking originated in the 1930s when the cross country ski coaches of Finland used it to keep their athletes in peak performance during the off season.

It naturally aligns your spine and strengthens your core, and uses over 50 per cent more muscles than if you were walking without poles.

All volunteer pole walking group leaders will be provided with training, at no cost. The training, which will equip the group leaders with knowledge of the technique, and other skills such as first aid and group management, is conducted by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA in Minnawarra Park, Armadale.

If you enjoy taking an active role within your community and would like to be part of this group, contact the City of Armadale Visitor Centre Coordinator at 9399 0414 or visitorcentre@armadale.wa.gov.au.
