The City of Armadale will be giving away over 8,000 native seedlings to residents on Saturday, 8 May, at Minnawarra Park.

The City’s annual Native Plants for Residents initiative will help residents reduce water costs and control pests, as these plants prefer local conditions, overall helping to achieve a healthy garden.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the event will help residents revamp their gardens and receive advice on improving their garden in time for Spring.

“Planting natives not only reduces weed invasion into bushland and helps control soil erosion, but also provides an array of environmental benefits,” said Mayor Butterfield.

“The native seedling species have been selected based on their long term growth potential and survival capacity to suit the local soil and climate.

“These species grow well, establish quickly, are water wise and support our special wildlife, including stingless native bees.”

Since its first year in 2017, the City has given away more than 35,000 native plants and seedlings to local residents.

Many people strive for a healthy garden, but everyone has experience with weeds at some point. The City’s team of experts will be on hand to offer advice on the care and maintenance of natives, and information on the most suitable plants for your area.

Residents of the City of Armadale are eligible to receive 10 FREE plants per household as part of the giveaway. To receive your FREE plants, proof of residency is required.
