The City of Armadale is encouraging residents to support the Centenary of Red Cross, which was formed at Government House, Melbourne on 13 August 1914, exactly nine days after the outbreak of World War I.

The WA Red Cross’ Travelling Suitcase Exhibition will be available to view at the Armadale Library from Tuesday 21 October to Monday 3 November, 2014.

Mayor Henry Zelones said although most of us know Red Cross for its work in emergency relief and recovery, and for the highly respected Blood Service, there are many local volunteers and supporters who continue to assist in the everyday work of Red Cross in our community.

“I encourage everyone in our local community to visit the library during the exhibition and support the achievements and contributions of 100 years of Red Cross in Australia.

“It is important that we acknowledge and support the current work of Red Cross; this will strengthen the organisations ability to reduce vulnerability and continue to improve so many lives in our community,” said Mayor Zelones.

The Red Cross’ Travelling Suitcase Exhibition is generously supported by Lotterywest.
