The City of Armadale was recognised with three top honours at the recent 2019 Children’s Environment and Health Local Government Policy Awards for its work towards creating positive health outcomes in the community.

The City’s initiatives, aimed at improving food security and increasing healthy food options, addressing alcohol related community issues (joint action with the City of Gosnells and City of Canning), and its program to reduce smoking in the community were winners across the three categories of ‘Healthy Food’, ‘Action on Alcohol’ and ‘Smoke Free Environments’ respectively.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones, OAM, JP said the City was proud to be recognised in this fashion as it demonstrates that good policy, collaboration and well targeted initiatives go a long way to provide impactful outcomes for people.

“These awards are all about recognising the important work that goes into creating real and meaningful health outcomes for people through integrated initiatives in the community and everyone working away in the background should be proud,” said Mayor Zelones.

The final awards were chosen from a record number of submissions across 41 participating local governments across Western Australia.

The ‘Children’s Environment and Health Local Government Policy Awards’ is an initiative of Public Health Advocacy Institute of WA that aims to showcase the work local governments are doing to positively influence legislation, policy and services to promote the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Awards were presented across 10 categories by the Hon. David Templeman MLA Minister for Local Government, Heritage, Culture and the Arts at the Policy Awards breakfast with 150 in attendance in August 2019.
