City of Armadale is calling for nominations to recognise local groups or individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community for the 2020 Australia Day Council Auspire Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Now in its 43rd year, the awards recognise those individuals and groups who have championed positive change in the local community, with winners being presented with their award across the state on Australia Day in 2020.

Open to all members of the public aged 16 and over, nominations are invited across four categories including Community Citizen of the Year, Senior Community Citizen of the Year (65 years or over), Young Community Citizen of the Year (under 25 years) and the Active Citizenship Award (community group or event).

Mayor Henry Zelones, OAM, JP said the awards were a very high profile way to recognise our local community champions.

“These awards are a nod to all the extra hours, passion and initiative that key individuals and groups give in making our community a more positive place for us all,” said Mayor Zelones.

“I encourage anyone who knows someone like this to nominate them so we can celebrate and recognise their contribution and be collectively inspired.”

The prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards is a program of Auspire - Australia Day Council WA, presented in partnership with local government member organisations. It culminates in the announcement of Community Citizen of the Year Award recipients around the state on Australia Day.

Past year local City of Armadale winners included Andrew Clift - Community Citizen of the Year, Christine Bloomer and Yvonne Waddell - joint winners of the Senior Community Citizen of the year and the Roleystone Theatre Group as Community Citizen of the Year (group or event).

Nominations close 31 of October and can be made online at www.citizenshipawards.com.au
