The City of Armadale has been successful in attracting over $22,000 of funding from the Australian Government as part of the Community Energy Efficiency Program.
The grant, along with the City’s contribution of $22,856 will be used to improve energy efficiency at the Champion Centre.
The initiative will reduce electricity consumption at the Champion Centre by more than 21,350 kWh per year, which means a saving of approximately 19.85 tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalent each year.
Mayor Henry Zelones said the internal and external lighting will be upgraded to energy saving LEDs and the ceiling insulation will also be upgraded.
“This will greatly improve amenity for staff and visitors to the centre whilst reducing operating costs and harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
“There are lots of ways everyone in the community can get on board to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at home this winter, while staying warm and enjoying the benefits of lower energy bills.
“When you’re home alone, try rugging up or using a radiated heater that warms people, not the air, and only heat the rooms you’re using.
“Don’t idle your car to warm it up, as fuel injected cars (including diesel) don’t need to idle to warm up – although manual choke vehicles still have to idle briefly.
“Consider installing or upgrading your house insulation this winter, as homes without insulation quickly loose heat through ceilings, windows, walls and floors and of course gain heat during summer.
“Losses can account for 70% of heating bills in homes that are not insulated – and that’s a big cost to the household budget and the environment,” said Mayor Zelones.
