Australia Day in Armadale Alcohol Free 2023
Release Date:
Wednesday, 18 January 2023

Residents, friends, family and visitors are invited to join our Australia Day in Armadale event on Thursday 26 January 2023 from 5pm.

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the City’s annual event provides a relaxed atmosphere for people to reflect on the day’s meaning and encourages anyone attending to arrive early to secure a picnic spot in either Memorial or Minnawarra Parks.

“I know this day means different things to different people, but I hope people take the opportunity to come together and enjoy our inclusive and family friendly program featuring live music and entertainment, children and family activities, carnival amusements rides and attractions and lots of food and drink options,” Mayor Butterfield said.

Program highlights include the Welcome to Country by Nigel Wilkes, performances from traditional Aboriginal dance group Mungart Yongah, emerging artists Someday Soon, and The Struggling Kings Duo on the main stage along with Janelle Komakech who will sing the national anthem.

“Mungart Yongah has over 40 years’ experience performing and sharing their culture,” Mayor Butterfield said. “The group has been based in the Armadale area for the past five years and have an 'inclusive' attitude, encouraging community to come together to make it safe to live in, and to understand mental health, and any other issues.

“Someday Soon is a newly established Australian indie/funk band with a line-up of incredible young musicians who are all high school students from local school Carey Baptist College and will perform their own funky covers and some originals as well.

“And the Struggling Kings Duo – brothers Daniel and Luke Riches - hail from Bardi country and have grown up learning and living the traditional lifestyle of their Bardi people, accumulating a unique blend of traditional and contemporary music-fusing Indigenous language with an indi vibe.”

Prior to the fireworks, Matty T Wall, an extraordinary blues-rock guitar player, singer, songwriter, will front the main stage with his band for some sweet blues and gritty stomping blues beats.

The evening will finish with a spectacular fireworks display with the soundtrack broadcast over Heritage 107.3FM radio.
