Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony 2023
Release Date:
Wednesday, 1 February 2023

Australia Day in Armadale saw the City host a special citizenship ceremony at the Kelmscott Hall where two residents and a community group were recognised in the Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year awards.

This year a total of 133 residents from 30 countries, some from as far away as Iran and Brazil, received their Australian citizenship and celebrated alongside this year’s recipients of the Citizen of the Year awards.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield said our region continues to grow and is proud of the City’s rich mix of cultures and heritage.

“It was wonderful to see so many people from all around the globe joining our community,” Mayor Butterfield said.

“As a City we embrace and welcome the diverse mix of traditions and customs from across the world, and the people that now call Armadale home.

“Citizenship ceremonies are a special time for new Australians as they pledge their commitment to Australia and its people, the values we share and the future of the country.

Over the last decade, the City has welcomed more than 1,000 new citizens at its Australia Day ceremonies, in addition to regular ceremonies held throughout the year.

Attendees at the Australia Day ceremony enjoyed light refreshments of traditional lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits, whilst listening to the Welcome to Country performed by Kandice Hansen and entertainment provided by Aidrian Tanner playing the digeridoo.
