The City of Armadale’s John Dunn Challenge Park has been named as an Award of Excellence winner in the AILA 2023 Landscape Architecture Awards program, announced on Friday 23 June 2023.
Since opening in April 2022 the state-of-the-art bike track has proven hugely popular with bike enthusiasts and caters for BMX and off-road activities for a wide range of levels and abilities to competition level.
Renowned award winning Ecoscape Environmental Consultants and Landscape Architects delivered on the brief for a dynamic, sculptural and functional bicycle facility, offering pump tracks for beginners and advanced riders, jump tracks at beginner, intermediate and advanced/extreme levels, skills loop, bike playground and a mountain bike skills tracks around the park’s perimeter in collaboration with the bike park designers, Three Chillies Design.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the prestigious award recognises the City’s commitment to provide the local community with the innovative design for the facility, attractive connective parklands providing an active social hub for our growing community, and value for money.
The esteemed awards process is an opportunity for public and peer recognition of work done by the profession of landscape Architecture and attracted a diverse range of entries including Margaret River Main Street (Civic Landscape), Koolambidi Woola – Bunbury Youth Precinct (Parks and Open Spaces) and Port Hedland Coastal Foreshore Management Plan (Land Management).
“The facility cost $1.33 million and was paid for by the City and supplemented with funds received from a Sporting and Recreation Facilities Grant,” said Mayor Butterfield.
As a winner of the AILA WA 2023 Chapter Awards in Play Spaces the John Dunn Challenge Park is now a finalist in Stage 2 National 2023 Landscape Architecture Awards which will be announced in Adelaide on 19 October, 2023.
