School Battery Program

The City of Armadale offers schools the opportunity to participate in a household battery collection program for the correct disposal and recycling of batteries.

Batteries contain hazardous materials that can be harmful to the environment if sent to landfill or cause fires in waste trucks and/or recycling facilities when placed in the kerbside collection bins. Collecting batteries separately for recycling means old batteries can be made into new batteries, keeping them out of landfill and saving valuable resources.

For your school to participate, please complete the registration form and send to Waste Services:

Your school will receive:

  • Two 4 litre pails that are “dangerous goods” (DG) approved
  • Education posters
  • Collection and storage guidelines
  • An email containing standard wording and images to promote battery recycling

The Recoverables School Program

The City of Armadale partners with Veolia Recycling & Recovery to provide a free waste education program to local schools.

The program is designed to help students understand the relationship between waste and the environment.

Plastic Oceans Australasia Education Program

The City of Armadale partners with Plastic Oceans Australasia to provide a waste education program to local schools, free to schools for the first year with subsidises issued thereafter.

Plastic Oceans Australasia Education Program is a comprehensive package of learning materials and hands on activities revolving around single use plastics. Plastic Oceans Australasia provides guided support for the first 12 months and is then designed to be taken on solely by the school and passed down through the year levels as an ongoing initiative until single use plastics in the school are totally phased out.

WasteSorted Schools by the Waste Authority

WasteSorted Schools provides support for schools across Western Australia to promote responsible waste management behaviours, with a focus on waste avoidance and resource recovery. It also develops positive environmental values in students and the whole school community.

WasteSorted Schools offer free services to teachers and schools.

  • Curriculum materials and activities
  • Incursions and waste audits

Clean Schools by Keep Australia Beautiful Council

Clean Schools is designed to change the littering behaviour of students, involving the whole school to prevent litter in our community.

Clean Schools offer free services to teachers and schools.
