Responsible Pet Ownership

Responsible Pet Ownership

The City’s Ranger Services are responsible for the impounding of stray and unowned dogs, cats and livestock. Dogs and cats should be registered and microchipped, so that the owner is readily identifiable and can be contacted, these animals are then held for a 168 hour (seven day) period. If an animal is not claimed within that time it may be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the Dog Act 1976 or Cat Act 2011.
