R is for RECYCLING
Many items can be recycled through your kerbside recycling bin or through your local recycling facility. Visit Waste Sorted, Be a GREAT Sort to find out more.

Kerbside recycling bin

Keep it simple by recycling just these 5 items: paper, cardboard, cans, hard plastic and glass.

Plastic bottles, glass jars, tins and cans

  • Rinsed and dried
  • Lids removed
    • Any lids larger than your palm can be placed in the recycling bin
    • Small lids cannot go into your recycling bin and must be placed in your general waste bin (or can be recycled at our Drop 'n' Shop)

Cardboard and paper

  • Clean and flattened
    • Sticky tape is fine but no greasy pizza boxes
  • Milk, juice and custard containers
    • Excluding UHT/silver lined containers. These must go into your general waste bin unless eligible for containers for change.
  • Paper and cardboard larger than the size of your palm

Hard Plastic

  • Any hard/rigid plastic containers and bottles that you can't scrunch into a ball. For a full list, visit RecycleRight
    • Hard plastic toys cannot go into your recycling bin and must be placed in your general waste bin (or can be recycled at the Drop 'n' Shop)

Other items

  • Aluminium trays and foil wrappers
    • Rinsed and dried
    • Scrunch aluminium foil into a ball the size of your fist

If in doubt, leave it out. To find out if an item can be recycled, visit Recycle Right.

When you recycle your items, ensure they are:

  • Loose, not in bags
  • Clean and free from food residue
  • Lids are off

Once items are collected, separated and processed, they become valuable materials that can be used to produce new products. Aluminium cans can become cars, glass can be used in road-base, plastic bottles can become insulation or made into beanies, and so on. To find out more visit Waste Sorted.

Recycling Hubs

Recycling Hubs are located throughout the City of Armadale, accepting items such as household batteries, printer cartridges, aerosol cans, light globes, mobile phones, bottle caps, CD's/ DVD's and much more. To find out more information on these hubs, their locations and what you can recycle, visit our Recycling Hubs page.

Containers for Change

Drink containers currently make up to 44% of all litter in Western Australia, even though they are made from easily recyclable materials such as glass, plastic, aluminium and cardboard.

Containers for Change is Western Australia’s container deposit scheme that encourages Western Australians to collect and return eligible containers to designated refund points to receive a 10c refund per item.

Container for Change also provides an exciting fundraising opportunity for schools, local sports clubs, community groups, charities and worthwhile causes.

For more information about the scheme, what containers are eligible and to find a refund point nearest to you visit Containers for Change
