Bakers House, Harrisdale, Sunday 20 March 2016, 11am-4pm

The Australia China Friendship Society of WA presents Yunnan Province: The Path to Discovery photography exhibition by Elana Halvoson, as part of the Harmony Day festival at Baker’s House in Harrisdale on Sunday, 20 March, 2016.

Supported by the City of Armadale, the exhibition features a range of extraordinary images taken by Elana Halvoson on a recent photographic safari through the stunning Yunnan Province in China.

“I chose Yunnan Province because I wanted to go to where the village life was still relatively traditional and not many Western people regularly travel there,” said Ms Halvoson. “The journey took me to Dali, Lijiang, Shaxi and Shangri-la where I often stayed with locals that gave me a greater appreciation of the subjects.”

China’s ethnic diversity includes 56 distinct groups and more than half of China’s minority groups reside in Yunnan Province.

WA Director of the Australia China Friendship Society, Roz Hanley of Roleystone, was keen to assist Elana to exhibit her images of China’s diversity to the local multicultural WA community.

“We are pleased to support Elana to exhibit her images. Her beautiful photographs depict daily activities of the ethnic people in China going about their lives, plus expansive lyrical Chinese landscapes,” said Ms Hanley.

The one-day exhibition will be a feature of the Harmony Day festival at Baker’s House in Harrisdale and the public are welcome to view the images between 11am and 4pm.
