A prestigious career development program aimed to assist 32 Year 10 students to broaden their horizons and develop their careers, was re-launched at the City of Armadale on Wednesday.

The Armadale Aspire program has returned for a second year following a successful pilot last year. The program couples career development workshops with hands-on industry excursions.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said this year new local high schools and business partners have come on board the seven week program.

“The students will meet at the City of Armadale’s administration building once a week for seven weeks, where they will upskill in job interview techniques, develop a resume and cover letter, delve into correct social media use for employment, understand how to identify their skill sets and other critical career-readiness skills.”

Last year’s pilot program saw multiple students walk away with work experience opportunities and receive job interviews and employment as a direct outcome of their involvement.

“The program is modelled on the Kwinana Industry Council’s award winning iProjects and connects local education institutes to industries, in a unique way previously not explored in the City of Armadale.

“Students will have the opportunity to meet potential employers and tour local businesses including Armadale Shopping City, Armadale Reptile Centre, Beaver Tree Services, Classic Sounds, and Daly and Shaw,” he said.

Partnering high schools include Armadale Senior High School, Carey Baptist College, Cecil Andrews College, Dale Christian School, John Wollaston Anglican Community School, Kelmscott Senior High School, Roleystone Community College, and Southern Hills Christian College.

The program will finish with a formal Graduation evening on Monday 27 August where the Aspire students will be presented with certificates and opportunities by the City of Armadale Mayor in front of school principals, business directors and families of the young people.
