Youth sports programs encourage teamwork, active lifestyles, and a goal oriented outlook. Now in its fourth year, the Armadale NightFields program continues to be a popular after school activity.

This free initiative provides our diverse and growing community with outdoor activities that bring children, and their parents, together in a safe and positive environment, while introducing them to a variety of sports, skilled coaches and mentors.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield said, “I’m really excited we are continuing to offer this program to our younger community members, whether it’s trying a new sport, wanting to meet new people or just wanting to hang out in the chill zone, there is something for everyone”.

With a focus on Aussie Rules, basketball, cricket and hockey, NightFields is for children aged 12 to 18 years and all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Free sessions will run every Thursday from now until 19 March, from 4.30pm to 6pm. Participants can enjoy a sausage sizzle with vegetarian option available for dinner following each session.

“If your child is looking to be active, learn and develop new skills, and socialise on and off the playing fields while having fun, then Gwynne Park Oval is the place to be on Thursdays”, said the Mayor.

The last two programs have been an overwhelming success, with over 500 registrations and local sporting clubs reporting increased registrations, demonstrating the desire amongst our younger community members to become more active.

The Stephen Michael Foundation NightFields program is supported by the City of Armadale and other local organisations.
