The City of Armadale has been awarded a $10,000 Youth Engagement Grant from the Department of Communities to deliver a twelve month program commencing in August.

The grant will allow the City to create an inclusive program with a focus group of up to 40 diverse local young people who will have the opportunity to address issues prevalent to their lives and the wider community, over the course of the year.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the grant has afforded the City an exciting opportunity to create a program that will collaborate with local young people and local partners.

“During the school holidays young people will be able to brainstorm, design, and implement youth-focused projects and address issues important to them and their daily lives and to the wider community.

“The program will give the City an opportunity to connect with local youth and partners including YMCA, Headspace, Save the Children and Notre Dame University.

“There are a lot of local young people in our community who are community minded, and they’re in touch with the issues that affect them, their communities, and young people in the wider region.”

“By collaborating with the two areas, we hope to be able to address issues that affect many young people.”

Alongside the project, the City will produce a review of youth friendly places, spaces and programs through youth engagement and consultation with Notre Dame University, in line with the actions in the Community Development Strategy 2017 - 2021.

More details on the program, including opportunities for young people to nominate to take part, will be announced shortly on the City’s website www.armadale.wa.gov.au/youth.
