The rich story of the wildflowers of Armadale will bloom to life when the Wildflowers of Armadale: Fabulous then, fabulous now exhibition opens on Sunday 29 April at History House Museum.

The exhibition will showcase the history of the City’s wildflowers and the people who have studied and protected them for our enjoyment today and into the future.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that wildflowers have played an integral part in the City’s biodiversity history – making Armadale a biodiversity hotspot.

Since botanists first encountered the wildflowers between 1839 and 1841, the area has been a popular place for botanists to visit and study.

“The exhibition tells the story of just a handful of botanists, of who helped put this region on the botanical map.”

“They played an important role in the lives of Armadale residents for many generations; they have been used to signal the change of the Noongar seasons, inspired many artworks by local artists, and drawn thousands of visitors to the region.”

“Today 75% of the City is natural vegetation, with over 1,000 native plant species identified locally. It is 3.6 times more diverse than Kalbarri National Park

“We are fortunate to have areas such as Bungendore Park, Forrestdale Lake Nature Reserve and the Piara Nature Reserve on our doorstep, where locals and visitors can see so many fabulous WA wildflowers.”

The exhibition will be open from 29 April to 31 October, during normal business hours at the History House Museum.

The exhibition is presented by the Armadale Branch of the Wildflower Society of Western Australia and the City of Armadale.
