City of Armadale residents can do their bit for National Tree Day on Saturday 26 July by joining a community planting session at Riverside Reserve in Seville Grove.
Over the past two years this reserve has undergone a transformation, from open space that was abused by motorbikes and dumping of rubbish to an attractive and welcoming reserve.
More than 10,000 native seedlings have been planted in and around a newly constructed wetland, which aims at reconnecting the river and its natural flood plain.
On National Tree Day volunteers will infill native seedlings to encourage native fauna back into the area.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said anyone could join in the National Tree Day event, which is coordinated by the City of Armadale and supported by Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group (AGLG).
“You don’t have to be an experienced gardener or a regular volunteer – just come along and there will be someone to show you what to do.
“This is an excellent family and community activity and children will love the opportunity to dig in the dirt.
“Planting at Riverside Reserve will assist with AGLG’s ongoing work revegetating and restoring the natural environment across bush and river foreshore sites in the Cities of Armadale and Gosnells.
“The City of Armadale is delighted to support National Tree Day and this enjoyable community planting event on Saturday 26 July,” said Mayor Zelones.
National Tree Day volunteers are advised to wear boots and gloves and to bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and rain jacket, according to the day’s weather conditions.
Meet at the reserve in Riverside Lane, Seville Grove, for a 9am start. Planting will finish at around 11am, or when all the seedlings are in the ground.
