Bedfordale artist Trudi Pollard has been named as the first Festival Artist for the inaugural 2016 Armadale Arts Festival (AAF) hosted by the City of Armadale.

Trudi was named Festival Artist during the official AAF program launch today, her selection recognises her long-term commitment to artistic inspiration and well-being of the Armadale community.

Considered a textile art pioneer and foremost expert on Western Australian natural dyes, Trudi has been working, studying, lecturing and teaching in the areas of textile arts and ceramics for more than 40 years.

She exhibits locally, nationally and internationally, has won many awards and her work is held in both public and private collections world-wide.

Her work has a strong focus on colour, locally derived from the earth’s minerals and plants and using designs and techniques that reflect both primitive and contemporary art.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said Trudi’s commitment to artistic inspiration and her dedication as a community arts facilitator made her an obvious choice to be named the inaugural Festival Artist.

“Having lived in Bedfordale for more than 30 years, Trudi is a passionate cultural leader who empowers our own and other communities to be strong and creative,” he said.

“She is the ideal role model as we embark on one of Armadale’s most exciting art projects to date, the Armadale Arts Festival.”

The inaugural Armadale Arts Festival opens on 1 April, and will run over 17 days, with 30 events showcasing a wide range of high quality talent coming from this region. For more details or for an event program, visit www.armadale.wa.gov.au
