Students studying or living in the City of Armadale who want a chance to volunteer in the community are invited to volunteer their green thumbs during National Student Volunteer Week.

The City of Armadale and Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group invite students to join them for a morning of planting native seedlings along the river banks in Fancote Park, Kelmscott from 8.30 to 11am on Saturday 19 August.

The planting session will be followed by a celebration morning tea.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that in the spirit of celebrating National Volunteer Week he encouraged students with an interest in volunteering to get involved.

“Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience. It is a positive way of giving back to the community we live in.

“The planting day is an excellent opportunity for students who have an interest in volunteering, to get their hands dirty and experience volunteering in the City.

“The two and a half hours of planting will go a long way to help grow the City for the future. It will also be an opportunity to learn about sustainable planting, the environment and rejuvenating the river bank.”

The planting will take place rain, hail or shine. Students are advised to wear appropriate clothing for the day such as; long pants, shirts and sturdy shoes, and bring sunscreen, hat, drink bottles, raincoats and gloves.
